Law enforcement thanked for prompt response in Renovo March 2 shooting incident
LOCK HAVEN, PA – Clinton County Commissioner Angela Harding has lauded the prompt response of law enforcement from all across the county in the wake of an “active shooter” situation in Renovo on March 2.
Harding said at the commissioners’ work session Monday the police response was “greatly appreciated.” Word of the incident surfaced just before 8 a.m. on March 2 and less than an hour later the lone suspect was in custody and a shelter in place directive was ended.
Police responding, Harding said, included in addition to Renovo police, state police, the Clinton County Sheriff’s office, Keystone Central police, and officers from Lock Haven and Mill Hall. She said it took all of them to protect the public schools at Farwell, the Bucktail Medical Center in South Renovo and the community at large.
Meanwhile the suspect, Gene Michael Eaton, 45, of Sullivan Acres, Renovo, remains in the Clinton County Correctional Facility in lieu of $350,000 bail following his arrest .
According to the narrative provided by the office of Clinton County District Attorney, a resident called the police at 7:48 a.m. to report that Eaton was pointing a silver pistol at a residence and was shooting it in the street and into an alley. Eaton was reportedly seen by witnesses walking toward Huron Ave. from Ontario Ave. after firing multiple shots. Members of the Renovo Police Department, Lock Haven City Police Department and PSP-Lamar arrived on the scene and made the arrest. Eaton was reported not compliant so a TASER was deployed. Police report that a silver handgun was taken from Eaton during his arrest.
Charges against Eaton include discharge of a firearm into occupied structure, firearms not to be carried without a license, simple assault, recklessly endangering another person, criminal mischief and resisting arrest. He was remanded to the county lock-up after his apprehension.
