The Lock Haven women’s wrestling team is set to compete at the National Collegiate Women’s Wrestling Championships, scheduled for March 7-8 in Coralville, Iowa at the Xtreme Areana, and the brackets for the championship were released.
Action will start Friday, March 7 at 12 p.m. EST.
Jayleah Pletz, Lily Sherer, Paige Jackson, Marissa Rumsey, Avry Ryhal, Lindsay Laws, Azariah Moore, Alyssa Favara, Trinity Monaghan, will all represent the Bald Eagles in Iowa at the NCWWC Championships, and their first-round matches are listed below.
The 10 national qualifiers are the most in program history.
Behind three individual champions and a total of twelve place winners, the nationally-ranked Bald Eagles soared to the NCWWC Region 2 title on February 23. The Bald Eagles totaled 155.5 points, edging out East Stroudsburg (148.5).
Pletz (117), Moore (180), and No. 4 Favara (207) all placed first in their respective weight classes.
Favara finished with an impressive 26-1 overall record and finished with 11 tech falls and five pins. Pletz racked up nine pins and Moore finished with seven tech falls.
Favara was also listed at No. 4 at 207# in the final regular season individual rankings.
Veteran standouts Sherer (2022 All-American), Moore and Jackson are all returning national qualifiers and Sherer is returning for the fourth consecutive season.
Sherer led the team with 29 victories and finished second on the team with 10 pins on the year and tied with Favara for the team-lead in tech falls (11).
Batts, Pletz, Rumsey, Ryhal, Laws and Monaghan will make their NCWWC national championship debut this weekend.
Ryhal finished third on the team in wins (20) and was one of three Bald Eagles to secure 20 victories.
