BALD EAGLE TOWNSHIP – The Central Mountain volleyball team, coming off a 13-5 regular season, had been prepping for the start of the District 6 playoffs Nov. 9. Unfortunately for the squad, that won’t be happening as the Keystone Central School District goes to two-week remote learning effective Monday, Nov. 2 and all extra-curricular activities are cancelled.

Central Mountain athletic director George Bidwell sent out that word Sunday, after the district earlier in the day had announced the two-week remote model for all district schools. Bidwell’s message included, “Unfortunately, for our volleyball program, I am very sorry to inform you that your season has come to an end. Due to the unfortunate timing of our switch to Remote Learning and the District 6/PIAA schedule for the post-season, we are unable to continue to participate.”

Bidwell said the change also affects the district’s junior high football, freshmen football and junior high cheerleading seasons.

The Central Mountain volleyball team was seeded second in District 6 and likely to host a semifinal game on Nov. 9.

His full announcement:

At this time, the Keystone Central School District has decided to move to a FULL REMOTE learning model for ALL SCHOOLS for a two-week period. This has been made out of extreme caution for the safety of our staff and students as COVID-19 rates in Clinton, Centre and Potter counties have all risen.

Due to this change, school district facilities are closed with the exception of essential staff members. Therefore, all school district activities, including athletics (in season and out of season) will be postponed/cancelled for the next two to two and a half weeks. KCSD Administration will continue to monitor the situation in hopes of returning to school on November 16, 2020. If we can return to school on November 16, 2020, and athletics can continue, we will adhere to the following PIAA rule for JH girls basketball (only in-season sport at the moment):

“If a member school’s practice schedule has been interrupted by a temporary school closure or strike for more than three(3) consecutive days after the minimum length of preseason practice has been completed, that school must have three (3) days of practice prior to resuming its interscholastic athletics schedule.”

Unfortunately, for our volleyball program, I am very sorry to inform you that your season has come to an end. Due to the unfortunate timing of our switch to Remote Learning and the District 6/PIAA schedule for the post-season, we are unable to continue to participate. Furthermore, our JH football, Freshmen Football and JH Cheer seasons have come to an end.

We realize that this situation is not easy for anyone. It is imperative that our entire community takes the highest level of precaution to prevent further spread of COVID-19.
