CM Boys Soccer Drops Season Opener
BALD EAGLE TOWNSHIP – It wasn’t for lack of effort, but the Central Mountain boys’ soccer team came up short, losing 3-0 to visiting Milton in the Wildcats’ 2020 season opener at Malinak Stadium on Saturday.
As head coach Billy Hook noted afterwards, “We had a lot of chances, but couldn’t get the ball in the net. Milton had chances and capitalized on theirs.” As for positives, Hook said multiple younger Wildcats played well in their first game. He called this year’s squad, “a good group” that will get organized as the season unfolds.
Milton scored first, Conner Smith with a goal with 24:53 to go in the first half, followed by an Austin Gainer goal at the 16:46 mark, setting the halftime score at 2-0 for the visitors. The game’s final goal came with 2:54 seconds remaining, put into the net by Seth Yoder, final score, 3-0.
The Wildcats’ best scoring chance came from a Nate Brinker blast midway through the second half, but it just missed. Shots on goal saw Central Mountain with an 11-9 edge, plus an 8-5 margin in corner kicks.
The Wildcats will next play next Tuesday, Sept. 15 at Williamsport, a 4:30 p.m. start time.
