Bucks Come Up Short 43-16 to Red Raiders

FARWELL – Three first quarter scores by visiting Montgomery put the Bucks into a tough spot in their opening night 43-16 loss to the Red Raiders.

Montgomery held a 19-0 lead by the end of the first quarter then tacked on another 17 points before the half for a 36-0 mercy rule lead.

The Bucks tried to right the ship and get back on course in the early going of the second half when Dylan Cross dove in from 2 yards out followed by a tough run by Gage Sutliff for the 2-point conversion to stop the bleeding with 8:38 remaining in the third quarter.

Sutliff used his linebacker skills in pass coverage for the Bucks by tipping a pass, then snaring the bobbled ball to scamper 63 yards on the return of the interception to set up the score for Cross.

Gage Sutliff tipped an Almeida pass from his linebacker position and then grabbed the bobbled ball before returning the interception 63 yards to the Bucktail 2. Cross would call his own number and sneak it in for a Bucks touchdown.

Bucktail picked up solid yardage in the second half from their running game with Zach Pick, Tanner Pettingill and Sutliff spitting up the duty.

Montgomery would answer back with another touchdown early in the fourth quarter, extending their lead to 43-8.

Bucktail would score once more on their final possession of the game when Pick would carry the load on the 62 yard drive that set up a TD run by Petingil with only 12 ticks remaining in the game. Pick would tack on the 2-point conversion to close out the scoring at 43-16 in favor of Montgomery.

Bucktail will next travel to Muncy on Sept. 18, 2020.
