WILLIAMSPORT – The Bucktail girls’ tennis team went down swinging at the District Four AA tournament at Williamsport on Tuesday. Hughesville came out on top by a 3-0 score. Bucktail finished the year at 8-2. The girls have qualified for the district playoffs for 13 years straight. The tennis program has compiled an overall record of 148-46 in these 13 years.
The Tuesday playoffs had the Lady Bucks playing Hughesville High School in a quarterfinal match. The Lady Bucks played extremely well, but would come up on the wrong end of the final score. During the match Bucktail saw great leadership and steady play from its seniors, Myka Poorman, Sara Kepler, and Carlie Gentzyel. These three would stay apace with their opponents, going to deuce on many game points. Then in the doubles, Bucktail saw great play from its young players, made up of two ninth graders, one tenth grader, and an eleventh grader. Emma Poorman, Christina Delatorre, Bella English, and Kayla Probert played solid matches, with great net play.
“We are extremely proud of our team. They put forth a competitive match, and represented themselves and school very well! We appreciate the leadership of our seniors and look to continued success with our returning players,” said co-head coaches Dan and Alison Heiser. es
The Bucktail program will be competing at District 4 doubles tournament at Williamsport High School on Saturday, Oct. 19. Bucktail will be sending two doubles teams to represent the school: Myka Poorman and Sara Kepler and Christina Delatorre and Carlie Gentzyel. Last year Bucktail saw one of its doubles teams advance to the quarterfinals in a bracket that had 32 doubles teams from across the district. Bucktail is hoping for a similar or better showing this year.
