Thomas F. Shearer- Obituary
Thomas F. Shearer, 95, of Westport passed away Thursday, April 25, 2019 at Bucktail Medical Center in S. Renovo. He was the beloved husband of Florence A. (Anderson) Shearer. Together they shared over 73 years of marriage.
Born in Renovo on May 4, 1923 he was the son of the late Helen (Shearer) Koller. After graduation from Renovo High School, Thomas served in the South Pacific during World War II and earned the rank of Corporal in the Marine Corps. He came home to marry Florence on December 16, 1945 and began to work as an electrician for the Pennsylvania Railroad. Later, he worked as a journeyman electrician as a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, Branch 812 of Williamsport.
Thomas was a lifelong member of the Grace Baptist Church in North Bend where he loved to give his time freely to help anyone who needed it at the church. He also served on the board for the Bucktail Medical Center. Thomas enjoyed tending to his many apple trees and sharing apples with friends and family. In his free time, he was an avid fisherman, hunter, and a great musician. He loved to play the trombone in the Emerald Hose Company Alumni Band and The Last German Band in Renovo.
In addition to his loving wife, Thomas is survived by two sons, Harry Shearer and wife, Colette of Wanette, OK, and Tom Shearer and wife, Barbie of Renovo; two daughters, Alice Marie Peterson and husband, Mark of Cedarville, OH, and Mary Ellen Nevel and husband, Sam of Centre Hall; 13 grandchildren, David, Julie, Amy, Mark Jr., Rachel, Rebecca, J.T., Jennifer, Jill, Erica, Alicia, Emily, and Hannah; 32 great-grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; one sister, Barbara Nypaver of Pittsburgh; and several nieces and nephews. Thomas was preceded in death by one brother, Elwood Shearer; one sister, Vivian Gill; and one great-granddaughter, Emily Lemke.
A Funeral Service will be held 2:00 p.m. on Monday, April 29, 2019 at Grace Baptist Church, Rt. 120 in North Bend, with Reverend Mahlon Nevel officiating. A viewing will be from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. prior to the service. Burial will be at North Bend Cemetery with full military honors provided by the Renovo Honor Guard. Maxwell Funeral Home, 205 5th St., in Renovo is in charge of arrangements.
