Wildcat Track & Field Host First Home Meet of the Season

MILL HALL – It took an extra day to pull off due to wet weather, but the Central Mountain track and field teams held their first home meet of the 2018 season. It was a double dual with Shamokin and St. Joseph’s Catholic Academy.

The Lady Wildcats picked up a pair of wins today, edging Shamokin, 73-69 and dominating St. Joe’s, 95-52.

Leading the way and picking up first place honors for the the Lady ‘Cats were: Alyssa Luaghner in the 1600M run, 5:40.11 and 800M run, 2.37.52. Jonna Diehl 100M hurdles, 17.29 and long jump, 14′ 6″. Ashley Kline contributed with a time of 52:40 in the 300M hurdles. Hunter burger picked up wins in the 100M dash, 13.11 and 200M dash, 27.49. Barger also anchored the 400M relay unit along with Riley Phillips, Macy Akeley and Ashley Kline with a time of 53.48.

In the field events, Sadie McCaleb picked up wins in the pole vault, clearing the bar at 6′ 6″ and threw the javelin 111′ 10″. Sarah Probst picked up first place in the shot-put with a throw of 31′ 2″. Amelia McCloy finished first in the high jump, clearing 5′ 0″.

Also of local note in the girls’ meet, Lock Haven native Kathleen Simander comets with the St. Joseph’s squad and finished third in the 1600M run with a time of 5:47.55.

In the boys’ meet, it was a split decision with the Wildcats picking up a 111-31 win over St. Joseph’s Academy and fell to Shamokin 97-49.

Kenny Jones led the way against both opponents with first in the 100M dash, 11.18; 200M dash, 23:11.55 and the long jump, clearing 20′ 6.25″. Jones also anchored the the 400M relay squad with Austin Confer, Seth Andrus and R.J. Shaffer that placed first in 46.58. Jones was at a 15 meter disadvantage on the final baton exchange and quickly erased that deficit for a stunning come-from-behind victory.

Corbin Green led the pack in the 1600M run with a time of 4:45.27. Emre Yakut placed first in the 400M run in 55.02.

Picking up first place honors for the ‘Cats against St. Joe’s were: Jacob Watson 110M hurdles, 20.82 and 300M hurdles, 48.52. Bryce Neff finished first in the pole vault, clearing 8’. Vinnie Kopysciansky finished first in the shot-put with 38′ 1″ and the discus, 109′ 9″. Caleb Porter picked up wins in the long jump, 36′ 5.5″ and the high jump, 5′ 6″.

Central Mountain will next travel to Altoona for a key District 6 meet on Tuesday, April 24, 2018.
