Central Mountain’s Corl, Bucktail’s Long Recognized as Scholar-Athletes

UNIVERSITY PARK – Central Mountain’s Asher Corl and Bucktail’s Logan Long were among the mid-state scholar-athletes recognized Sunday at the annual Central Pennsylvania Chapter of the National Football Foundation banquet Sunday on the Penn State campus.

Both Corl and Long were two-way standouts for their respective teams last fall. Both were successful teammates on the Central Mountain wrestling team this winter and both will play baseball for their respective schools this spring. Both plan to participate in athletics in college.

Former Penn State football player Keith Olsommer was the speaker at the event held at the Penn Stater conference center. Olsommer, a 1997 Penn State graduate, said football teaches you “how to deal with adversity.” He said adversity in football is nothing like that to be experienced in life and, “That’s when you either overcome it or get run over.”

Penn State football coach James Franklin spoke briefly and told the high school football players in the audience to continue in football for the benefits it offers, stating that the sport is safer now than ever.
