Wildcats Pull Away from Bulldogs, 9-2

MILL HALL — The Central Mountain baseball team has completed a successful three day run through greater Williamsport area opponents. None were laughers but all were wins, including today’s 9-2 triumph over rival Jersey Shore.
The Bulldogs (4-4) came to Mill Hall needing a win to try and keep pace with the Heartland Conference-leading Wildcats (10-1) and ‘Shore hung tough, tied 2-2 heading into the bottom of the fifth.
That inning saw Central Mountain put together seven hits and take advantage of three Bulldog errors and put up seven runs and a 9-2 lead. That outburst broke up a pitcher’s battle between CM senior Cole Reeder and Jersey Shore sophomore Tim Saar.
“We were thing them solid all game … it was a lot of at’em balls,” related coach Mike Kramer of the early going, “We were taking good approaches at the plate and just getting nothing out of it. We changed our approach as the game went on, more down instead of out. It was nice to see us break out and score some runs,” explained Kramer.
“We had a long week,” said Kramer about his squad facing Selinsgrove, Montoursville, Williamsport and now Jersey Shore since Monday, “It was a long four-game week. I was afraid we might come out tired today. Cole Reeder came in and did a great job like all our pitchers did this week and we played great defense behind them.”
Reeder would end up pitching six innings, giving up five hits and two runs, striking out seven and walking three, winning his third game in three starts. Ethan Watkins pitched a scoreless seventh in relief.
The Wildcats were held to four hits and two runs by the lefty Saar through the first four innings. But the fifth proved his undoing. Talon Falls started things with a single, Wyatt Koch walked and Isaac Porter singled to load the bases. Watkins started the run onslaught with a 2-run single and Asher Corl followed with another 2-run single. Toner Corl punched a 1-run single, Alex Garbrick a 1-run single and Falls finished the scoring with a 1-run single.
Asher Corl led the offense with a 3-for-3 game, including a double and three RBIs. Falls finished with two singles and two RBIs; Garbrick had a triple and two singles and an RBI; Porter a single and a double; Watkins a single, Toner Corl a single and Brandon Miller a single.
The win was the ninth in a row for Central Mountain and the third in three days over Lycoming County teams: 5-0 over Montoursville on Wednesday, 5-3 over Williamsport Thursday and the 9-2 Friday win over ‘Shore.
Central Mountain will have a rematch at home Monday with Midd-West, a team the Wildcats defeated earlier 15-0.That will be followed by a midweek road showdown at Shikellamy (8-1) next Wednesday. CM is now 6-0 in the Heartland, the Braves 5-0. Jersey Shore dropped to 3-3 in the conference with its loss today.
