Pairings for the Final Round

cm-wrestlingHERSHEY – District 4 and 6 have a dozen wrestlers in action that will receive medals for their effort. All that remains is one last match to see how high they will stand on the podium. The action is slated to begin at 7 p.m. on all four mats and we will update the results for our local wrestlers as we receive them.

Mifflin County leads the pack with the Hidlay brothers in the championship finals and three more in the consolation finals. The Huskies are currently in third place in the team rankings with 77.5 points. Bethlehem Catholic is in the lead with 110.5 points, 3 in the championships and 3 more in the consolation finals. Nazareth moved into the second spot with 78 points, 2 in the championship finals and 2 in the consys.

Geo Barzona (106) is the lone remaining Wildcat in the hunt of a medal and will face Becahi’s Zach Glenn in a quest to finish in fifth place. Both Barzona and Glenn had similar experiences ar sates this week. Both had byes in the preliminary round followed by victories in the first round, then losses in the quarterfinals … a pair of wins in the next two consolation round with losses in the consy semi-finals. Though, no common opponents in the mix.

The Huskies’ Hayden Hidlay (152) will face Easton’s James Saylor in the championship final while Trent Hidlay (160) will experience déjà vu as he has a rematch of the AAA NW Regional final with Kaleb Young of Punxsutawney. Hidlay will seek to avenge his 2-1 tie-breaker loss to Young at regionals as he goes for the gold.

Seeking a third place finish will be Altoona’s Cole Manley (126) and Mifflin County’s Noah Stewart. Manley will face Chandler Olson of Shippensburg. Both Olson and Manley lost to Luke Karam on their way to the finals. Olson lost 11-0 in the quarterfinals while Manley fell to Karam 13-0 in the semis.

Also seeking fifth place medals from our area will be Trey Hartsock of Mifflin County, Selinsgrove’s Drew Boob and Josh Fye of BEA.

Hartsock will have a shot at redemption as he faces Dylan Harr of Governor Mifflin in the consy finals. Harr edged Hartsock, 4-3 in the quarterfinals.

Boob will face Garrett Zobel of LaSalle. Both Fye and Zobel defeated Quakertown’s Gavin Caroff earlier in the tournament 5-2, Zobel in the first round and Boob in the consy quarterfinals.

Fye will see his last high school wrestling action against Isaac Reid of Kiski. Reid and Fye did not have any common opponents during the tournament, though Fye had a repeat of his AAA NW Regional finals match in edging Cathedral Prep’s Kuwuan Deboe in the consy quarterfinal 3-1 to advance.

Seeking seventh place titles are: Mifflin County’s Noah Myers (120), BEA’s Seth Koleno (132), Bellefonte’s Brock Port (145), and Jersey Shore’s Hadyn Swartwood (160).

Myers will see action with Conestoga Valley’s Jose Morales. Both Morales and Myers defeated Caleb Morris of Waynesburg this week. Morales with a tech fall (2:28, 17-2) in the third round of consolations and Myers edged Morris 7-6 in the first round.

Koleno will take on Ryan Vulakh of North Penn in the finals. Both saw action against Central Dauphin’s Andrew Wert earlier in the tournament. Koleno edged Wert, 5-4 in the consolation third round, while Vulakh fell to Wert 8-1 in the first round.

Port will face Edmund Ruth of Susquehanna Township. The pair saw no common opponents, though Ruth edged Philipsburg-Osceola’s Dakota Weitoish with a 2-1 tie-breaker win in the first round.

Swartwood will seek a victory over Dan Iredale of Conestoga. Earlier in the tournament this pair faced two common opponents. Both lost to Lower Dauphin’s Bailey Shutt. Swartwood fell 3-2 in the first round, while Iredale lost, 3-1 in the quarterfinals. Both had wins over Kyle Homet of Waynesburg. Iredale with a 3-2 win in the first round, Swartwood, a 10-0 major decision in the consolation second round.
