PIAA State Championship Quarterfinal Round (Live Updates)

Quarterfinal Round Begins at 2 p.m.

cm-wrestlingHERSHEY – Action continues today in the 2016 PIAA AAA State Championships. The competition was fierce in the opening rounds on Thursday with nearly one-third of the wrestlers representing Districts 4 and 6 suffering two losses on the first day of the tournament and bowing out from the contest.

Still alive for the Wildcats in the championship quarterfinals is Geo Barzona (106) who will face Tyson Klump of Nazareth and Hunter Weaver (220) will meet Gavin Caroff of Quakertown in the consolation second round.

Yesterday, Barzona used a takedown late in the first period, a tough ride on top in the second period and a pair of escapees in the third period to prevail 4-2 over Matt Wilde of Boyertown.

After dropping his first match, Hunter Weaver battled back with an early second period escape and a takedown with 12 sec. to go, then put together a pair of takedowns in the final 30 sec. of the third period to advance over Nathan Feyrer of Parkland, 7-3.

Mifflin County still has the largest group at the Giant Center from our area with Noah Myers (120), Hayden Hidlay (152), Trent Hidlay (160), Noah Stewart (170) and Trey Hartsock (195) … all in the championship quarterfinals.

Bellefonte has Brock Port (145) in the championship quarterfinals. BEA has Josh Fye (285) in the quarterfinals and Seth Koleno (132) in the consy second round.

Altoona’s Cole Manley (126) is in the winner’s bracket quarters with Brinton Simington (182) still alive in the consolation second round.

Drew Boob (220) of Selinsgrove, will be in the championship quarterfinals with State College’s Adam Stover (113), Hollidaysburg’s Hunter Gill (285), Jersey Shore’s Hadyn Swartwood (160) and Dakota Weitoish (145) of P-O are all still alive in the lower bracket.

In the team race, Bethlehem Catholic leads the AAA field with 34.5 points (6 in the winner’s bracket and 3 in the wrestle backs) and Mifflin County is in a strong second place position with 23.5 points with five wrestlers in the winner’s bracket.

The Quarterfinal Round is slated to begin at 2:15 p.m. with two rounds of consolation action to follow.

We will update results and add photos of the action as we receive them throughout the round. The tables below will refresh automatically as results are published. We will only be posting weight classes where we have participants fro District 4 or District 6.
