Arts Council Honored with First-Ever LHU Presidential Medal
LOCK HAVEN — The Clinton County Arts Council has been presented Lock Haven University’s first Presidential Medal.
School president Dr. Michael Fiorentino made the presentation as part of Saturday’s winter commencement exercises at the local university. The award recognizes a community member or organization for significant contributions to the Clinton County community.
Arts council board president Steve Getz accepted the award, stating, “It’s amazing what a small group of individuals can accomplish with vision and hard work. You can actually help to change a community.”
Getz said a number of community players helped earned the arts group its recognition, citing county and local government, Lock Haven University and local businesses and private individuals. He thanked the university “for recognizing the merit of our mission.”
The council is involved in a series of wide-ranging activities designed to create greater public awareness of and participation in the arts. It operates its Station Gallery, a converted train station, at 2 E. Bald Eagle St. in Lock Haven.
The council is joining with Lock Haven University to stage a broad-ranging jazz festival in August of next year.
