Fred James Lachat, Sr. – Obituary

Fred was born in Lock Haven on July 31, 1932, the son of the late Albert and Eva Lachat.
On December 17, 1955, he married the former Barbara Ann Remick, who survives.
Fred began his working life as a young man by shining shoes for a local business. He then went to work for the Lock Haven Chair Factory for several years before their closing. He was then employed at Hammermill Paper Company before going to work at Allen Woodworking until his retirement.
Fred liked being outside, especially gardening, fishing and hunting. He loved spending time with his wife and enjoyed their mountain rides together. Fred was also an avid woodworker and crafted several pieces of furniture over the years.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by four children, Fred (Judy) Lachat, Jr. of Lock Haven, Kathy Lachat of McElhattan, Brenda (Kendall Walizer) Lachat of Lykens, and Michael (Julie) Lachat of McElhattan; three brothers, Jim, Frank and Roy Lachat and their families; six grandchildren, Josie, Jamie, Josh, Devin, Michael David and Kendra; and eleven great grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by six siblings, John, Joe, George, Bobby and Frances Lachat, and Mary Bradley; and a granddaughter, Heather Ann Merrill.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, July 10, 2015 at 7 p.m. at the Moriarty Funeral Home & Crematory, 112 E. Church St., Lock Haven, Pa 17745 with Deacon Phil Gibson officiating.
Friends and family will be received at the funeral home on Friday evening from 5 p.m. until the time of the service.
Memorial contributions may be made through the funeral home to the Alzheimer’s Association.
