Storm No Match for the Class of 2015 (Video Report)

BALD EAGLE TOWNSHIP – Thunder, wind, rain … no problem. After about an hour and twenty minute delay, the Sixteenth Annual Commencement at Central Mountain High School took place to honor the academic achievement for the graduating seniors.

District officials faced the monumental task of evaluating weather projections with the safety and comfort in mind for their 276 graduates and thousands of family friends, faculty and staff on hand for the ceremony.

The decision was made shortly before the scheduled start to delay a half hour for lightning concerns, then the rains passed through sending many scurrying for shelter or their cars to wait out the passing storm.

Then about 8:15 p.m. it was announced, rain or not, the celebration would go on. Shortly after the faculty and Class of 2015 took the field. Fortunately the rain ceased shortly after the ceremonies began.

Though a few folks were in various stages of wetness from the routine early evening thunderstorms that prevail in our area in the warmer months, spirits were high and the celebration continued. When the faculty and students entered the stadium, it was to boisterous cheers and applause from family and fiends who patiently waited for the storm to pass.

CM principal, Steve Turchetta opened the festivities by stating, “Never let it be said that a little rain stopped the Class of 2015,” which drew another round of cheers from those in attendance.
