D.C. “Santa” brings news of over $260K for Bucktail Medical Center

SOUTH RENOVO – Congressman Glenn “GT” Thompson was in South Renovo Tuesday morning to announce that more than $260,000 has been awarded to Bucktail Medical Center for infrastructure upgrades, radiology upgrades, and new hospital beds.
“We do not emphasize enough the importance of this healthcare facility,” he said. “All of the services provided here for rural healthcare and the community hospital are incredible. I am announcing today that we are awarding $262,470 to Bucktail Medical Center to modernize its infrastructure, upgrade radiology services, and for 10 new hospital beds.”
Medical Center CEO Laura Murnyack expressed her sincere gratitude to Congressman Thompson for his ongoing support of rural healthcare.
“He understands something that we in rural healthcare experience: access to healthcare is not a luxury, it is a necessity. Modernizing our essential diagnostic services provides for earlier detection and more accurate diagnoses and treatment decisions,” Laura said. “Updating equipment enhances safety and comfort for patients. Thompson’s leadership ensures that rural residents are not left behind. When rural healthcare thrives, the local community thrives.”
Medical Director Dr. Toni Marcheskie was on hand to say a few words.
“If only the greater health care community would take notice of rural health,” she said. “People are being sent up here from down the hill because we are the only in-patient treatment hospital in the county. These upgrades will bring more people up here and will greatly support our hospital.”
Dr. Marcheskie went on to thank CEO Laura Murnyack for her dedication to BMC, saying that if it weren’t for her in this role the hospital would have closed.
Clinton County Commissioner Angela Harding spoke on behalf of the commissioners, adding that the commissioners are steadfast in their assistance to the medical center.
She then went on to not only thank the leadership of the CEO and board, but the staff at the hospital.
“Through the highs and lows, I’m sure you could have gone a hundred different ways but you chose to stay here and I thank you so much for that.”
Lastly, Renovo Borough Mayor Gene Bruno spoke about the teamwork he witnesses at BMC, citing his own experience as a coach.
“TEAM: Together Everyone Achieves More,” he said. “Any time, any success here is because the people work together. The most important thing is this institution right here: everybody chipped in and did their part.”
