“Light of the World”: Renovo Choir Delivers Heartfelt Christmas Performance
By Kevin Rauch
RENOVO – Just in time to help ring in the holiday season, the Renovo Area Community Choir and their director Patty Lacy performed “Light of the World” Sunday afternoon in front of a standing room only crowd at the United Methodist Church on 7th Street in Renovo.
This year was a nod to a more traditional Christmas concert as they performed ‘A Cantata for Advent and Christmas’ by Joseph Martin and Pamela Martin.
It was a heartfelt moment for the entire choir as Patty Lacy took a moment to tearfully acknowledge that the performance was being held in the memory of longtime members Wayne Short and Patt Lundfelt who both passed away this year, as Wayne was an active member right up to his passing on Thanksgiving Day. His wife Marilyn still took to the stage for this year’s show, as Lacy noted “Wayne would have no doubt wanted”. The Director compared the just over two dozen choir members as family, remembering the two beloved members.
Solos were performed by Dennis Smith, Kedda Bissman, Jim Cozzi and Courtney Billings. Abby Novak provided piano in addition to singing and Jamie Stone acted as the narrator.
Throughout the second half of the concert kids helped the choir with the show as they assembled a Manger, the set up growing with each passing song. The young actors were Sophia Heiser, Mathew Ross, Kohen Stewart, Kahner Stewart, Joseph Heiser, Quinn Dorman and Stephen Heiser.
Prior to the start as people walked into the church they were given battery operated candles that were lit for the final two songs. The candles remained lit as the Renovo Community Choir was given a well deserved standing ovation as their themes and talent always end with the full appreciation of all in attendance.
