Optimist’s Roundtable

By Martha Sykes

As I travel around our surrounding counties or wherever I go, I enjoy reading church signs. One that I saw last week said, “You don’t need glasses to keep your eyes on Jesus.”

It is always interesting to see what churches post on their signs outside, so I thought I would share a few of them with you that I have written down over the years.

“Sign is broken, message is inside”, “God recycles. He made you from dust.”, “Store your Bible in your heart, not on a shelf”, “Wrinkled with problems? Come to the Lord‘s house for a faith lift”, “Is prayer your steering wheel or your spare tire?”, and one of my favorites is “Prevent truth decay, brush up on your Bible”.

Just simple words but make us think about what makes us draw close to the Holy Word.

As I read the sign about glasses not needed, it reminded me of a song that we sang in a production of Godspell years ago entitled “Day by Day”

“Day by Day, Day by Day, O Dear Lord three things I pray. To see the more clearly, love thee more dearly, follow the more nearly, day by day.”

Not only are their signs on churches for us to get a message, but there are signs all around us that I believe God shows us as we travel the roads of life.
