Rotary Open House Showcases Ways to Help

LOCK HAVEN — Feeding families, helping kids, inspiring hope. Local people accomplish these things on a regular basis.

Three nonprofit organizations that help were showcased at the annual People of Action Open House, hosted recently by the Rotary Club of Downtown Lock Haven.

The public talked with Rotarians, enjoyed snacks, and met people from The New Love Center, Boxes of Hope, and Sleep in Heavenly Peace — PA Lock Haven.

Downtown Rotary donated $500 each to these three worthy causes and gave their leaders a forum to talk about what they do.

Laura Orndorf, president of the local chapter of Sleep in Heavenly Peace, showed models of the single beds and bunk beds that SHP builds and installs for children who don’t have a bed of their own.

Traci Fotorny spoke about Boxes of Hope, an effort she founded four years ago to fill small pink boxes with gifts for women battling breast cancer.

Holly Beaver, executive director of The New Love Center, described how its food programs have fed thousands in the region.

Downtown Rotary credits the community’s generosity for making possible the $1,500 in donations. If you sponsored a Flag of Honor for Memorial Day or an Angel Light for 9/11, or participated in any other club fundaiser, you had a small part in providing a bed, feeding the hungry, and sharing some much-needed hope.
