Lady Bucks Fall in District Doubles

By Bees O’Brien

WILLIAMSPORT- The District IV 2A doubles tournament was held on Saturday and the 2025 Mid Penn Conference tennis champions Bucktail was well represented.

The senior/freshman of Eva Sockman and Kelsie Wagner had a strong run into the quarterfinals before falling to top seed Hughesville in what many said was the best played match of the day.

Sockman and Wagner cruised in the first two rounds. A 6-0, 6-0 sweep over Jersey Shore’s Azlyn Guerrero and Emily Sherman was followed up by another sweep from the Lady Bucks in round two.

Bucktail stormed past Selinsgrove’s Madison Maneval and Talia Mowery 6-0, 6-0.

Sockman and Wagner gave Hughesville’s duo of Georgia Randall and Rebecca Roberts all they could handle. Bucktail set the tone by winning the first set by a 7-6 score. The Lady Spartans closed out the match and advanced to the semifinals by winning the final two sets in a battle by the counts of 6-1 and 7-6.

Hughesville joined Danville, Loyalsock and Montgomery in Monday’s championship round.

The senior Bucktail tandem of Lola English and McKenna Bissman also competed in the district tournament on Saturday. The pair fell to Jersey Shore’s top doubles team of Josie Gerst and Julia Herman in a competitive 6-1, 6-3 match.
