Ayers’ royal night lifts Falcons past Bucks, 40-14
By Bees O’Brien
COUDERSPORT- Improvements continued for Bucktail Friday night at Coudersport’s CARP Park, but sometimes those unforeseen happenings occur that nobody has control over.
Coudersport senior running back Preston Ayers had one of those nights. The Falcon raced for 220 yards on 14 carries and a pair of scores in just the first half of play. To top off his night, Ayers was named Coudersport homecoming king for 2025, as his Falcons knocked off Bucktail 40-14 in a rematch from week four.
That week four matchup seen the Bucks held in check offensively in a 45-8 defeat. This time around, Bucktail held the Falcons to five less points and scored one more touchdown than their previous meeting allowed.
Dustin Bailey crossed the end zone for Coudy in the first quarter at the 7:09 mark. Ayers’ two point conversion was good and the homecoming crowd seen their team up 8-0.
Caleb Wonderly’s touchdown catch from from Coleman Freeman on a 27-yard strike was followed by another Ayers’ run to build Coudersport’s lead to 16-0 as the first quarter drew to a close.
Ayers ripped off scoring runs of 23 yards and 48 yards to quickly double the Falcons; lead to 32-0.
Coudersport put together one last drive of the half and burned up time outs to ensure a late first half score to put the game into the mercy rule. Owen Gill’s two-yard plunge did just that and Coudersport led 40-0 at the break.
Bucktail failed to surrender and their spirit showed in the second half.
Corbin Pentz was the workhorse and Teagan Stone provided the finesse. Pentz connected with Bucktail’s top total yardage man on four different occasions in the second half for 88 yards, before Pentz capped off two fourth quarter drives.
Pentz was brilliant on a 34-yard touchdown run that seen him utilize a spin move to avoid a Coudersport defender.
Down 40-6, the Bucks kept working and with just 15 seconds remaining in the contest, it was Pentz again using his legs on a 23-yard scoring run. Pentz then found Stone on the try for two to set the final at 40-14.
Pentz finished a strong all-purpose night with 62 yards rushing, a pair of scores and 120 yards passing. Stone ended another strong night with four grabs for 88 yards and Aidan Ditty caught 3 passes for 41 yards.
Coudersport improved to 2-7 on the season, with both wins coming against Bucktail. The Falcons will finish their 2025 season at home Friday against Keystone.
Bucktail, now 1-8 will close out their season on Friday by hosting Columbia Montour Vo Tech on Senior Night at Dwyer Memorial Field/
