Troy Rolls Past Central Mountain, 70–29
TROY – The Central Mountain Wildcats faced a tough test Friday night against 8–1 Troy, falling 70–29 in a high-scoring road matchup. Troy’s senior standout Mason Smith accounted for eight total touchdowns — five on the ground and three through the air — to lead the Trojans to victory.
Troy built a 14–0 lead after one quarter before Central Mountain responded with a strong second frame. Dalton McDermott powered in from nine yards out, and quarterback Kyle Everett connected with Mason Masorti for a 59-yard touchdown strike. Mycah Carson added a 31-yard field goal just before halftime, but Troy carried a 28–16 advantage into the break.
In the third quarter, Gavin Heverly provided a spark for the Wildcats with a 76-yard kickoff return for a touchdown, while Everett later found Mario Serafini for an 8-yard score. Despite Central Mountain’s offensive efforts, Troy’s balanced attack proved too much, racking up 505 total yards, including 360 on the ground.
McDermott led the Wildcats with 97 rushing yards and a touchdown on 18 carries. Everett completed 7-of-14 passes for 130 yards and two touchdowns, and Serafini hauled in three receptions for 55 yards and two scores.
The Wildcats (0–9) will close out their season next Friday night when they travel to take on rival Jersey Shore.
