Central Mountain Doubles Teams Battle Hard at Districts

The Central Mountain girls tennis program showed grit at the District 6 doubles tournament Tuesday, but both pairs came up just short in well-played matches.

Head coach Tom Zettle praised the effort despite the results. “I was happy with the way both doubles teams played today despite the losses,” Zettle said. “All four girls were first timers at Districts. I expect three of the four back next year with hopefully better results. Audra Eaton is the lone senior this year. Lane and Lucy Walker are freshmen, with Kassie Williams being a sophomore.”

The Walker sisters fought through three close sets, splitting the first two before falling in a 10-point tiebreaker.

  • Maddy Clinard/Ava Kelly (Mifflin County) def. Lane Walker/Lucy Walker (CM) 7-5, 5-7, 10-6

In the other matchup, senior Audra Eaton teamed with sophomore Kassie Williams in a battle that featured two tight sets.

  • Ava Williams/Adalia Lapazoakes (Altoona) def. Audra Eaton/Kassie Williams (CM) 7-6 (7-4), 7-5

With three underclassmen gaining valuable postseason experience, Zettle sees a promising future ahead for the Wildcats.
