Renovo Gears Up for 76th Flaming Foliage Festival with Town-Wide Clean-Up on Sept. 26
By Kevin Rauch
RENOVO – As the 76th Annual Flaming Foliage Festival draws nearer, a town clean up has been scheduled and everyone is invited to join as the town prepares for the second weekend in October.
The clean-up- which scope will range from weeding to picking up trash and everything in between- will start at 8:00AM on Friday September 26 where participants will meet at the Flaming Foliage Lot in Renovo. The focus will be on the parade route which runs along Huron Avenue and Erie Avenue but will also include the 300 block of Ontario and 200 block of Champlain Avenue where the parade participants line up.
Flaming Foliage members came up with the idea while walking around town recently but were quickly joined by others. Volunteers from the Tamarack Station of Berkshire Hathaway Energy were approved to come in and provide some much-needed muscle behind the effort. Renovo Borough also immediately jumped on board, as did others.
Bobbi Barner had the idea of and contacted property owners of vacated buildings, including owners from out of town and received permission to spruce up the former business store fronts. Garbage bags will be provided, but brooms and weed eaters are encouraged to be brought along by volunteers wanting to take part in the efforts. Drinks and lunch are also being planned for those volunteers that take part.
For those properties that are regularly maintained and cleaned in the borough, organizers would love to see fall decorations and decor as the small town prepares to look its best as visitors will soon be making their yearly pilgrimage to Renovo.
