Words of Grace
By Rev. Mahlon Nevel
A man was standing in line in a grocery store. As he finished paying for his groceries the clerk sent him away with a cheerful wish: “Have a great day!”
The clerk was surprised at the man’s response. He exploded in anger, and shouted, “This is one of the worst days of my life. How can I have a great day?” And after he said that he stormed out of the store.
The Bible gives us a reason why we can rejoice and be glad for each new day. “This is the day which the Lord hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it” (Psalm 118:24).
As David Roper has written, the Lord has made very day, and our Father will show himself strong on our behalf today. He has control over everything in this day, even the hard things that may come.
Roper goes on to point out that all the events of this day have been screened through God’s wisdom and love. As a result, they become opportunities for us to grow in faith.
We can rejoice and be glad, and we can have a great day today. This little verse reminds us:
“When dawn announces each new day,
Before you rise up out of bed,
Rejoice – be glad and give God praise,
And thank Him for what lies ahead.”
