The Golden Axe Ushers in a New Era with Grand Reopening and New Ownership Team

LOCK HAVEN— The distinct sound of axes meeting their mark echoed through The Golden Axe at 137 E. Main Street in downtown Lock Haven on Thursday, August 21, 2025, as Lock Haven’s popular sports and recreation venue marked its grand re-opening and ribbon-cutting ceremony under new ownership. Cadence Eyer, James Pringle Jr., and Kira Munro have officially taken the helm, ushering in a new chapter for the city’s go-to spot for axe-throwing, billiards, games, and family-friendly fun.
The event, facilitated by Downtown Lock Haven, Inc., drew a close-knit group of community supporters and local leaders, including Downtown Lock Haven, Inc. Manager Melissa Dally, Downtown Lock Haven, Inc. member Brian Taylor, City Mayor Joel Long, Pennsylvania State Representative Stephanie Borowicz, Lock Haven City Council member Steve Stevenson, Clinton County Chamber of Commerce/Tourism Assistant Megan Wheeler, City Planner & Development Coordinator Abbey Roberts, and Director of Community Life Kasey Dumm. Their presence underscored the venue’s significance as both a source of entertainment and a valuable asset to the downtown district.
“On behalf of Downtown Lock Haven Inc., I’d like to welcome you all to the Grand Reopening and ribbon-cutting of The Golden Axe,” said Downtown Lock Haven, Inc. Manager Melissa Dally, her words echoing the venue’s vitality. “We’re thrilled to celebrate this exciting moment with a business that brings unique energy and entertainment to the district. Events like today highlight the strength of our community, the dedication of small business owners, the entrepreneurial spirit, and the continued growth of Lock Haven as a destination, place to discover, gather, have fun, and most importantly, to proudly call home. Congratulations to The Golden Axe team, Cadence, James, and Kira. We’re proud to have you here in the heart of downtown.”
Mayor Joel Long followed Dally’s warm welcome, highlighting the city’s recent surge in entrepreneurial energy. “We sincerely appreciate you investing in downtown Lock Haven. It seems like I’m saying the same thing over and over again, but that’s a good thing, because it means we keep getting more and more new businesses in town, and although this is not a new business, it’s a new venture for you, and we’re happy you were willing to step in and take this on.”
For the three new owners, acquiring The Golden Axe was more than a business decision—it was a mission to maintain a safe, welcoming haven for the area’s youth and families.
“We took over this venture to keep it in town because it is unique and local kids don’t have enough places to go. We want to keep it open and let kids come in and enjoy the free stuff we have for them to do,” said co-owner Kira Munro. “It’s not necessarily about spending money, but keeping everybody safe and clean.”
Cadence Eyer echoed that sentiment: “When I was a kid, and as a teenager, we had the skating rink and everything, but now we have nothing to do. I like that we have high school kids who just come in and play pool or something, and I think it’s really good to have something for them to do; it’s a better alternative to having them outside, on the streets, doing whatever.”
The Golden Axe proudly opens its doors to patrons as young as seven, with Thursday evenings designated as “Family Night”—offering axe-throwing for kids ages 7–17 at half-price. Detailing the special on the venue’s Facebook page, Eyer wrote: “Every Thursday night is Family Night here at The Golden Axe! Kids ages 7–17 can throw for 50% off, making it the perfect chance to bring the whole family out for some fun. Whether you’re a seasoned thrower or just giving it a try for the first time, our lanes are open to everyone.”
In addition to its signature axe-throwing lanes—including innovative lanes with projector systems that display games like tic-tac-toe and battleship directly onto the targets—The Golden Axe offers a variety of other activities for guests to enjoy. Visitors can test their skills with Giant Jenga, an oversized Connect Four, darts, cornhole, and three pool tables. Adults 18 and older also have the option to try their luck on four PA Skills machines. The venue is available for private events and can be rented for birthdays, bachelor and bachelorette parties, and all types of celebrations, making it a unique setting for any gathering.
This fall, The Golden Axe will be hosting football watch nights, adding to a calendar already dotted with creative events. Those looking to bring the fun elsewhere also have the option of booking the venue’s popular mobile axe-throwing trailer for their special event or celebration. The Golden Axe mobile trailer has already been a hit at the Clinton County Fair this summer, and will soon make an appearance at the upcoming Truckers4Hope event, slated for September 25–27, at the Clinton County Fairgrounds.
Giving back is also core to the owners’ vision. On Saturday, August 23, from 3:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., The Golden Axe will host a special fundraising benefit night for Tucker Dorman, a local youth recently diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. “A portion of all axe-throwing proceeds will go directly to supporting him and his journey. This community has shown time and time again how strong and compassionate it is, and we’re humbled to be able to play even a small part in making a difference,” said Eyer.
Quirky features, like puppy-themed “Paw-gust” drinks and special treats for canine companions, add to the venue’s inviting atmosphere. Patrons are invited to bring their own alcoholic beverages and are welcome to bring along their furry friends as well. “We’re a BYOB spot, so feel free to bring your favorite drinks (just keep it respectful and responsible). Got a pup with you? We have treats for your furry friends,” the new ownership team said in a recent Facebook post.
The Golden Axe welcomes guests Mondays from 3 to 7:00 p.m., Tuesdays through Thursdays from 3 to 9:00 p.m., Fridays and Saturdays from 11:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., and Sundays from 11:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. To stay updated on events and specials, visit The Golden Axe on Facebook at www.facebook.com/thegoldenaxelh.
