LOCK HAVEN— A new spark of entrepreneurial spirit was ignited in downtown Lock Haven on Thursday, July 24, 2025, as Creek Unique Candles and More held its official grand opening at 20 Bellefonte Avenue. The grand opening and ribbon-cutting ceremony celebrated the transformation of the space into a vibrant hub for handcrafted items, creativity, and collaboration. More than just the debut of a new business, the ribbon-cutting ceremony symbolized a renewed spirit of entrepreneurship in the heart of the city.
Owned by Harold and Becky Fleming, Creek Unique Candles and More specializes in handcrafted candles and soaps, all of which are made by the couple themselves using naturally based ingredients. The shop also offers a wide variety of locally made food items, gifts, and decor, along with an array of unique items crafted by artisans from across the globe.
In attendance at the ceremony was Melissa Dally, Manager of Downtown Lock Haven (DLH) Inc., who welcomed the family business with open arms. “Creek Unique is more than just a candle shop,” she said in her opening remarks. “It’s a place that brings people together through scent, style, and a passion for handmade local products.”
Attendees quickly recognized the creativity and collaborative spirit that the new shop brings to the downtown area. “Today is not just about opening a storefront,” Dally continued. “It’s about lighting the flame of entrepreneurship, supporting local dreams, and continuing to build a vibrant, welcoming downtown for everyone to enjoy.”
The Flemings expressed their gratitude for the outpouring of support from the community and local officials who attended the event. Among those present were City Planner Abbey Roberts, Director of Community Life Kasey Dumm, Clinton County Chamber of Commerce/Tourism Assistant Megan Wheeler, City Mayor Joel Long, City Council Member Tami Brannan, Mark “the Shark” Schlesinger of Schlesinger Communications, and other members of DLH Inc.
Owner Harold Fleming briefly spoke about his family’s journey to opening Creek Unique Candles and More, recounting how they purchased the building with intentions of establishing a headquarters for their business after discovering their passion for candle-making a few years ago. “This started off as just a thought, and we’re turning it into a dream,” Fleming said.
He underscored the family’s dedication to becoming a meaningful part of the community, stating, “We want to live here and we want to be part of the community.”
Fleming expressed pride in the handiwork of he and his wife, and noted his own background in woodwork and 3D printing, which is evident in the many unique items on display in the shop. He concluded by hinting at future developments for the business, assuring the crowd, “This is not going to be just one and done. We’ve got something else in the works.”
Neighbors, supporters, and local leaders mingled, sampled the store’s wide range of signature, handcrafted scents, and congratulated the new entrepreneurs. The opening of Creek Unique Candles and More further strengthens Lock Haven’s vibrant business district, contributing creativity, collaboration, and a variety of handcrafted products to the city’s thriving hub for shopping, dining, and the arts.
