Words of Grace

By Rev. Mahlon Nevel

The Book of Psalms is often referred to as the song book of the Bible. The Psalms were sung by David and others in the worship of God.

Psalm 145 has been called the Great Psalm. God is extoled for his greatness. (V. 1) “Great is the Lord, and greatly to be. praised; and his greatness is unsearchable.” (v.3)

David was determined to declare God’s greatness. (V.6) He wrote about the great goodness of God (v. 7), and the great mercy of God. (V.8)

God’s greatness is unsearchable. We can only wonder about it. A new song heard on Christian radio stations exclaims : “How great is our God! Oh, how great is our God!”

One summer evening in the year 1886 in the country of Sweden, a group of people were gathered for a meeting.
The author, Carl Boberg, had been invited with some other men to raise money for missionary work.

It had been a beautiful day, but all of a sudden a storm arose. The visitors all ran for cover, but soon the rain stopped. A rainbow appeared in the sky and Boberg was enraptured by the wonders of it all.

The author sat down and wrote a poem nine stanzas long. It was later set to music, and we sing it in America.

“O Lord my God, when I in awesome wonder consider all the worlds Thy hands have made, I see the stars, I hear the rolling thunder, Thy power throughout the universe displayed. Then sings my soul, my Savior God to Thee; How great Thou art How great Thou Art!”
