Words of Grace

By Rev. Mahlon Nevel

The apostle Paul was always glad to give his personal testimony as to what Jesus meant to him. In Philippians 3 he writes about how he trusted in his religion and his righteousness.

But those things which were gain to him he counted but loss when he came to know Christ. He lost his religion and his righteousness for the excellent knowledge of his Lord Jesus.

His desire was to some day be found in Jesus, not having his own righteousness, but having the righteousness of God that comes through faith in Christ. He also desired to know the power of Jesus’ resurrection.

Jesus was raised from the dead by the power of God. In Ephesians I Paul prayed that he would know the exceeding greatness of god’s power to us who are believers.

The power of God working in us is the same power that raised Christ from the dead. May we know Christ, and the power of his resurrection.

“Man’s greatest wisdom is to know the Christ of God who loved him so, and came back into this world of woe to break the clinched chains of sin and give him wondrous peace within.”
