LHU Men’s Track & Field places third at the Bucknell Team Challenge

LEWISBURG, Pa. – The Lock Haven men’s track and field team entered week five of its outdoor season by competing in the Bucknell Team Challenge hosted by Bucknell on Saturday. The Bald Eagles placed third with 123.5 team points.
The Bucknell Team Challenge took place at Christy Mathewson-Memorial Stadium.
PSAC & NCAA Qualifying Marks
Eric Zalar (Hammer Throw; NCAA), Nathan Fetchkan (Hammer Throw), Evan Klinger (3000m Steeplechase), Nick Bellomo (Pole Vault), Josiah Schans (110mH; NCAA and 400m), Ryan Miller (400m; NCAA and 200m), Ben Streator (High Jump), Jakob Rager (800m), Jarrett Lee (800m) and Matthew Muthler (400mH)
Track Highlights
Leading the way for the Bald Eagles on the track was Ryan Miller, who won a pair of events that they raced in, winning both the 400-meter with a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) and NCAA provisional time of 47.30 and the 200-meter with a PSAC time of 21.64.
Also headlining on the track were hurdle athletes Josiah Schans and Matthew Muthler. Schans won the 110-meter hurdles with a PSAC and NCAA time of 14.343 and placed second in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 54.53. Muthler placed third in the 400-meter hurdles with a PSAC time 55.89 and ran 15.46 in the 110-meter hurdles.
R. Miller was joined by Brennan Miller, Aydan Summers and Nick Bellomo and won the 4×400-meter relay with a time of 3:17.82.
The 4×100-meter relay team of Dylan Cassetori, Michael Lawrence, B. Miller and N. Bellomo finished third with a time of 41.70.
Evan Klinger ran in the 3000-meter steeplechase with a PSAC time of 9:44.63, finishing fourth.
Jakob Rager and Jarrett Lee hit a pair of PSAC times in the 800-meter, finishing sixth and tenth with times of 1:55.21 and 1:56.11, respectively.
Scoring points for The Haven in the 400-meter were Summers and Lorenzo Thompson with times of 50.05 and 50.26.
Field Highlights
Eric Zalar led the Bald Eagles in the field events. He threw the second-best throw in program history in the hammer throw, with a PSAC and NCAA distance of 196-03. Nathan Fetchkan also threw for a PSAC distance of 163-11 in the hammer throw.
Lawrence also competed in the triple jump, hitting a PSAC leap of 45-10.75, finishing third. Ben Streator also placed third with a PSAC jump of 6-02.75, and Shawn Hertzog placed fourth with a leap of 6-00.75, both in the high jump.
In the javelin throw, Carter Young placed third with a distance of 168-08, with Ben Smith placing fourth with a distance of 164-05 in the same event.
The PSAC qualifying marks were rounded out by N. Bellomo, who had a PSAC height of 14-06 in the pole vault and finished fourth.
Bradedon Firanski and Muthler scored points in the discus throw and the long jump in the field. Firanski threw for a distance of 140-01 with Muthler jumping for a distance of 21-04.75.

The Bald Eagles will travel to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on Thursday-Saturday, April 24-26, to compete in the Penn Relays hosted by the University of Pennsylvania.
