LHU Men’s Basketball edged by Mansfield in high-scoring PSAC battle
LOCK HAVEN – The Lock Haven men’s basketball team fell late in a high-scoring Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) battle with Mansfield, 95-90, on Wednesday afternoon (Feb. 12).
The Bald Eagles move to 12-11 overall and 9-9 in the PSAC. Mansfield improves to 8-16 on the season and 5-12 in conference play.
Eli Washington finished with a team-high 18 point, seven assists and recorded two steals to lead the way for Lock Haven. Washington knocked down 7-of-10 shots from the floor and 3-of-5 shots from behind the arch.
Kevin Coleman and LaQuan Byrd both scored 17 points, while Coleman pulled in a team-high eight rebounds and Byrd dished out three assists.
Bryson Scott rounded out the Bald Eagles in double figures with 11 points and Isaiah Stewart dished out a game-high eight assists.
The Bald Eagles led 46-39 to start the second half, but the Mounties came out of the locker room on an 12-4 run to take a 51-50 lead with 16 minutes to go.
However, Scott connected on a layup on the next possession and the Bald Eagles scored nine of the game’s next 12 points to regain the advantage, 59-53, with 13 minutes remaining.
The game of runs continued and Mansfield followed with a 15-6 outburst over the next three minutes to go back on top, 70-65, with 7:29 to go.
Lock Haven cut its deficit to three points seven times over the final seven minutes, but the Mounties continued to respond to halt each run and ultimately held on for the narrow victory.
The Mounties scored 30 percent of their points at the charity stripe and finished 31-of-34 at the line. Lock Haven finished 10-of-17 at the foul line.
In the first half, the Bald Eagles led by as much as 11 and shot 50 percent (19-of-38) from the floor to carry a 46-39 lead into the break. The Haven benefitted from 15 bench points, led 20-10 in paint points and knocked down seven shots from behind the arch. Coleman led all scorers with 15 points in the half and shot 75 percent from the floor.
