LAPORTE- For the second time within the past week, a Lady Buck reached the 500-rebound milestone. Eva Sockman, who’s been a force the past three seasons at Bucktail joined teammate Kendall Wagner by grabbing her 500th rebound on the road at Sullivan County on Monday night.
More importantly for Sockman and her squad, the Lady Bucks fought off a tough Sullivan County Lady Griffins squad for a 37-33 win.
Bucktail opened the game with a 9-6 lead and managed to keep that three-point lead heading to halftime following an even 8-8 second quarter.
Another even third quarter at 10-10 kept the visitors in front by three points heading into the game’s final quarter.
The Lady Bucks edged the Lady Griffins 10-9 in the final quarter of play to pick up a key 37-33 win. Sullivan County is amongst the District IV 1A teams trying to knock the Lady Bucks from playoff contention.
Sockman netted 3 points, but grabbed 16 rebounds in the victory. Kendall Wagner’s 20-point night led all scorers. Wagner also grabbed 10 rebounds. Matti Mason had a strong game for Bucktail by scoring 10 points, dishing out 3 assists, stealing 4 and finishing with a pair of blocked shots.
The loss to Bucktail will end Sullivan County’s season at 4-17. The Lady Bucks’ stock continues to rise following their win on Monday and they now hold the seventh place spot with their 6-13 record.
Bucktail will be looking to keep things rolling on Tuesday when Curwensville (1-17) invades Farwell for Senior Night. The 2A Lady Golden Tide’s lone victory was over West Branch, a team Bucktail downed back in December.
