Obituary – Barbara S. Shaffer
Barbara S. Shaffer, 92, of Renovo died Friday, July 12, 2024 at home after a brief illness.
Born Barbara Sue Inns, in 1932 in Sunbury, PA she was a daughter of the late Thomas L. and Olive C. (Campbell) Inns.
Barbara moved to Renovo as a child and attended Renovo schools, where she played clarinet in the school band. She graduated from Renovo High School in 1950. She attended Williamsport Hospital School of Nursing and became a Registered Nurse. After living in Buffalo, NY, she and her family returned to Renovo where she lived until her death.
Barbara was a nurse at Renovo Hospital and then Bucktail Medical Center, where she retired after serving as a nursing supervisor in the Extended Care Unit. Throughout her life, Barbara continually served the Renovo community.
She was an active parishioner at Trinity Episcopal Church where she served on Vestry, Altar Guild, taught Sunday School, hosted Election Day Luncheons and represented the parish at the Episcopal Diocese of Central Pennsylvania meetings.
Barbara was an enthusiastic supporter of Bucktail school sports. Always mindful of staying active and healthy, she was a long-time aquacise participant in the Western Clinton County Recreation Center. People could always count on Barbara for a kind word, an honest opinion and delicious baked goods. She was well-known and loved for being a good friend to many.
Barbara was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Jack E. “Puppy” Shaffer; her sisters Jane Monoski and Mary Edwards; and nieces Mary Lee Edwards and Judith Monoski Saia.
She is survived by her children, Cynthia Shaffer, Christine Shaffer Claar and Robert Shaffer; grandchildren Allyson Malizia (Kazuo Semitsu), Romolo Malizia III (Megan), Nicholas Malizia, Lindsey Glanz (Julia) and Madeline Shaffer; great grandchildren Yuna and Taiyo Semitsu and Romolo (Romey) Malizia IV.
Barbara leaves behind many adoring nieces and nephews, along with a community filled with mutual love and affection.
Special thanks to UPMC Altoona Hospice staff and UPMC Williamsport Hospice staff for taking excellent care of Mom/Gram/G.G. in her time of need.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 24, 2024 at the Maxwell Funeral Home, 205 Fifth Street, Renovo with the Reverend Canon Dee Calhoun officiating.
Friends and relatives will be received from 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
A private interment will be held at the North Bend Cemetery.
