BENV Kiwanis Hosts ‘Read Across Pennsylvania’ at Clinton County Housing Authority
LOCK HAVEN – On Wednesday, March 21, the Kiwanis Club of Bald Eagle and Nittany Valleys hosted a reading and literacy event at the John Yost Community Center as part of the Pennsylvania District Kiwanis ‘Read Across Pennsylvania’ event.
The event was coordinated in conjunction with the Kiwanis Club and member Roxanne Gottshall, who is also the program director at the Youth Center. The theme for this year’s ‘Read Across Pennsylvania’ was aimed at recognizing our community’s superheroes. There were ten members and several guest community superheroes present, including; BENV past president Della Watson, UPMC nurse; BENV Vice President Linda Walker, a retired educator; BENV member Holly Eisaman, children’s librarian at Ross Library; member Reed Mellinger, service dog handler, and his dog Bomber; Pennsylvania State Police Trooper Jen Bowers; and members of the Lock Haven Fire Department, Station 6 Matt and Bryan.
Kids were able to come and enjoy some pizza while learning with books, crafts, and other games. After the event, the LHFD showed them around the fire trucks. An additional thank you to Tanner Bowman and Claire Stein, students at Lock Haven Catholic School, who helped with a thank you banner for our heroes.
“The Kiwanis Club of BENV would like to thank the Clinton County Housing Authority,” said Penny Meyers, Club Secretary and Young Children Priority One chair, “their support allows us to continue our service to the community in meaningful and relevant ways.”
