LHU Men’s Track & Field dominates the field at Midweek Meet
BLOOMSBURG– The Lock Haven men’s track and field team posted a total of six individual victories and the Bald Eagles dominated the field today (Wednesday, March) at the Bloomsburg Midweek Meet.
Lock Haven took top honors in the 100-meter dash, the 400-meter hurdles, the 1,500-meter run, the 5,000-meter run, the discus throw and the triple jump. The Bald Eagles swept the top-four spots in the 1,500-meter event and Lock Haven went 1-2-3 in the triple jump.
The Haven went 1-2 in the discus throw and Braedon Firankski’s (Clearfield, Pa./Clearfield) winning mark of 142-10 in the discus throw was a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) championship qualifying mark. Eric Zalar (Shamokin, Pa./Shamokin) was second in the event with a mark of 130-70.
Lock Haven dominated the throwing events as Nathan Fetchkan (Newville, Pa./Big Spring) and Zalar finished 2-3 in the shot put with marks of 44-08.25 and 40-00.75, respectively.
Michael Lawrence (Blakeslee, Pa./Pocono Mountain West), Chase Young (Mill Hall, Pa./Central Mountain) and Matthew Muthler (Pottstown, Pa./Owen J. Roberts) swept the top-three spots in the triple jump. Lawrence won with a leap of 44-02.72, while Young (43-08.75) and Muthler (40-07.75) placed second and third.
Josiah Schans (Montoursville, Pa./Montoursville) opened the day on the track with a win in the 400-meter hurdles (57.21).
Lawrence and Kwame Whitaker Jr. (Fredericksburg, Va./Courtland) went 1-2 in the 100-meter dash with times of 11.44 and 11.48, respectively.
Jakob Rager (Dallastown, Pa./Dallastown) won the 1,500m and led a 1-2-3-4 finish. Rager won with a time of 4:03.48. Gavin Furey (Williamsport, Pa./Williamsport) and Andrew Wehrle (Punxsutawney, Pa./Punxsutawney) cracked the top-three with a times of 4:05.15 (2nd) and 4:06.10 (3rd). Tanner Walter (New Columbia, Pa./Milton Area) was fourth.
Owen Hibell (Palmerton, Pa./Palmerton) won the 5K with a time of 15:32.92.
Lorenzo Thompson (Tobyhanna, Pa./Pocono Mountain West) was second in the 400-meter dash (52.25) and Jarrett Lee (Selinsgrove, Pa./Selinsgrove) was third in the 800-meter run (2:00.92).
At 200 meters, Lock Haven finished 2-3-4-5-6 and Jaden Wright (Ulster, Pa./Athens) led the way with a second-place run of 23.05). Lucca Capparelli (State College, Pa./State College) was third in the event (23.07).
