LHU’s Zalar wins weight throw at Youngstown Collegiate Invitational

YOUNGSTOWN, OHIO – The Lock Haven men’s indoor track and field team kicked off its weekend by competing in the Youngstown Collegiate Invitational hosted by Youngstown State University on Friday (Jan. 19) at the Watson and Tressel Training Site.

Freshman Eric Zalar (Shamokin, Pa./Shamokin) won the weight throw with an impressive throw of 54-3.25. The mark is also a PSAC qualifier.

The men dominated the triple jump with four athletes placing in the top-10, led by Dominic Caputo (Montoursville, Pa./Montoursville) (13.46; fourth), Michael Lawrence (Blakeslee, Pa./Pocono Mountain West) (13.06; sixth), Kwame Whitaker (Fredericksburg, Va./Courtland) (12.59; ninth), Chase Young (Mill Hall, Pa./Central Mountain) (41-3.0; 10th).

Lawrence placed in the top-10 in the long jump with a mark of 20-3.75, placing seventh.

For the distance group, Kirk Stewart (South Park, Pa./South Park) shined again in the 800-meter run, finishing fifth with a time of 1:56.66 (PSAC).

Gavin Furey (Williamsport, Pa./Williamsport) ran his best mile of his career, finishing seventh with a time of 4:21.59 (PSAC).

For the sprinters, Whitaker led the Bald Eagles in the men’s 60-meter dash, placing ninth with a run of 7.12. The freshman had an additional 9th-place run in the 200-meter dash with a time of 22.43.

In the 60-meter hurdle prelims, Josiah Schans (Montoursville, Pa./Montoursville) and Austin Kravetz (Altoona, Pa./Altoona) secured top-10 finishes with a seventh- and 10th-place finish, respectively. Schans mark of 8.62 is a PSAC qualifier, while Kravetz just missed the mark with a finish of 8.78.
