Central Mountain Girls and Boys Swimming Teams Take Second at Mt. Lion Invitational

ALTOONA, PA-The Central Mountain girls and boys swim teams opened the 2023-2024 swim season at the Mt. Lion Kickoff Invitational held at Altoona High School.  Both teams finished in second place. For the girls team out of 11 teams they fell just 19 points behind Bellefonte. For the boys team out of nine teams they fell 37 points behind Central Cambria.

For the girls team Coach Scott Bair said, “Overall, it was a great day for the Wildcats.  The entire team scored valuable points.”

It all started with the first event, the 200 Medley Relay.  The team of Camryn Bair, Gabriella Hosley, Ana Persun, and Lily McWilliams took the title. The same relay would later win the 200 Freestyle Relay.  In the 200 Freestyle, Ana Persun finished 3rd for the Wildcats.  Persun would later finish second in the 100 Fly. Next, Gabriella Hosley won the 200 IM her first of two individual titles on the day.  Hosley also captured the 100 Breaststroke title.  Junior Camryn Bair kept things rolling for the Wildcats winning the 50 Freestyle and the 100 Freestyle.  Abrianna Hosley finished in second place in the 500 Freestyle and fourth place in the 100 Backstroke.  In the 400 Free Relay, the team of Kaylie McCloskey, Abrianna Hosley, Elizabeth Nestor, and Trinitie Rossman finished in second place.

For the boys team Coach Bair said, “The Wildcats boys team in all, 9 swimmers competed scored valuable team points.”

In the 200 Medley Relay, Neil Kluzny, Jonathan Hughes, Cory Matejovich, and Raiden Newcomer took the win.  Later in the day, Hughes, Rhys Swift, Kaluzny, and Newcomer won the 200 Freestyle Relay as well. Hughes was the lone Wildcat to win an individual title.  He looked very impressive winning the 100 Breaststroke.  Hughes also finished 3rd in the 50 Freestyle.  Sophmore Rhys Swift swam well in the 100 Fly finishing in 3rd place.  Also capturing a 3rd place finish was Sophomore Neil Kaluzny in the 100 Backstroke.

Up Next: The Wildcats will compete next Saturday at the BlueJay Invitational held at Bloomsburg University.
