Wildcats Pummel Bulldogs 57-9 (Video Report)
BALD EAGLE TOWNSHIPm – Missing a trip to Hershey for the PIAA team duals for just the second time in eight years, the Central Mountain wrestling team Tuesday night took out whatever frustration they may have been feeling on downriver rival Jersey Shore.
Denied a trip to the Giant Center in a 1-point loss to Mifflin County on Jan. 31, the Wildcats bounced back with a vengeance against a Jersey Shore team that had earned a trip to Hershey by winning the District 4 team dual title. Central Mountain led from start to finish in piling up a 57-9 Senior Night win before a capacity crowd.
The Wildcats scored virtually every way possible: pins from Geo Barzona (22-5), Emery Watson (19-6), Gavin Caprio (19-1) and Bryce Hanley (26-7). Majors were turned in by Keanan Bottorf (24-7), Caleb Turner (14-9) and Loc Long (21-8).
Forfeits went to Chris Confer (7-11) and Tanner Weaver (6-7). Earning regular decisions were Colton Weaver (18-9), Hunter Weaver (20-8) and, in a matchup of state-ranked wrestlers, No. 24 Isaac Porter (13-5) avenged a December loss to ‘Shore’s No. 23 Max Mason (24-6) with a 4-1 win.
Jersey Shore broke through with wins at two weights, Hunter Zondory (26-2) pinning Central Mountain’s Seth Andrus (20-8) and, in another matchup of state-ranked wrestlers, No.15 Hayden Swartwood (27-4) decisioned the Wildcats’ No. 9 Demetri Probst by a 5-1 score.
The win finished Central Mountain’s regular season at 13-1 while Jersey Shore dropped to 13-5 with a Thursday meet with Mifflin County remaining on its schedule.
The Wildcats head back to the wrestling room for practice until the District 6 AAA individual tourney, a one-day, eight-team affair scheduled for the Altoona Field House Saturday, Feb. 21.
