LOCK HAVEN – The Central Mountain swim teams head to Penn State this Friday and Saturday, hoping to build on their success during the regular season. The Lady Wildcats head to the District 6 tourney coming off a 9-4 dual meet mark, the boys finishing at 3-8.

Head coach Jim Merinar said the hope is to send out the seniors on a good note. They are James Riccardo, David Orndorf, Vinnie Kopysciansky, Emma Persun, Avery Mahoney, and Alayna Rousey.

Coach Merinar sees the opportunity for success, both male and female: “We are looking to have some high places at districts, especially from James Riccardo (2nd seed in the 100 fly) as well as from our girls relay teams.  Mikayla Rich could get into the top three with some good swims as well.”

“The kids have worked really hard and are peaking at the right time,” Merinar said. “On the boys’ side, Parker Orndorf and Derek Hughes have led by example, working hard each and every night.  I expect them to have some great swims, along with all the other boys. On the girls’ side, keep your eye on the two freshmen – Madison Bair and Hannah Brian.  They could surprise in their swims – as could all the girls.”

Merinar said he and assistant coach Carol Matheney “are very proud of everything we have accomplished, and we are expecting a great two days of swimming at Penn State.” He added, “The kids have done all the work, and they are ready for some high places and maybe some team records.”

The teams from State College are defending champs. Other schools participating include Mifflin County, Hollidaysburg, Altoona and DuBois from District 9.
