LOCK HAVEN – Everywhere you look on Route 220 in Clinton County you see employees of HRI, Inc. of State College doing repair work/upgrades.

HRI in July began some $16.9 million in improvements in the vicinity of the Lock Haven Bypass, some 7.5 miles of roadway concrete work to be done this year with a new layer of asphalt to be applied in the 2015 contracting season.

And the same Centre County contractor this week began “phase two” of PennDOT’s $12.4 million Route 220/Auction Road project in Lamar Township.

Crews will be installing erosion and sedimentation controls. As noted by PennDOT, when work on the second phase is complete, area drivers will enjoy smoother, more efficient travel through this area and have increased sight distance at the intersection, site of numerous traffic accidents over the years.

Phase two will feature the construction of the bridge and ramps on the western side of Route 220, adjacent to the Clinton County Fairgrounds. Overall work includes excavation, concrete piping, paving, sign structures, inlets, light poles, guide rail, and miscellaneous items.

Construction of Phase One was completed earlier this year. That work included the building of the ramps on the eastern side of Route 220, adjacent to the Central Pennsylvania Auto Auction.
