LH Volleyball concludes Homecoming Weekend 2-0 with victory over Assumption

BLOOMSBURG, PA – The Lock Haven volleyball team (6-3) continues to impress to start the 2023 season with a 3-1 victory over Assumption University (5-2) in non-conference action at Bloomsburg’s Nelson Fieldhouse on Sunday (Sept. 24).

Lock Haven hosted Assumption at a neutral site, where they ended the weekend a perfect 2-0 inside Bloomsburg’s Nelson Field House, after downing the Bloomsburg Huskies on Friday night.

The Haven battled back after falling narrowly in the first set (25-23) to sweep the final three and earn the 3-1 victory. Lock Haven won the second set 25-23 and the third set 25-22, before putting it all together to put the match away in the fourth with a convincing 25-10 victory.

With the victory, the Bald Eagles avenged a 3-1 defeat at the hands of Assumption earlier this season on September 2.

In the fourth and final set of the match, The Haven went up 10-0 before Assumption recorded a point. Lock Haven finished the set with a 13-1 advantage in kills, while holding the Greyhounds to a negative hit percentage.

The Bald Eagles led 52-42 overall in kills and 5-2 in blocks.

Emma Kelly (Cypress, Texas/Cypress Ranch) once again led the Bald Eagles offensive attack with 17 kills. Running mate Alyssa Daley (Everett, Pa./Everett) added 12 kills and four blocks.

Kelly Gaston (Centennial, Colo./Grandview) finished with a team-high 43 assists to go with 15 digs. Madison Eckley (Julian, Pa./Bald Eagle) led the team in digs with 16 and was second on the team in helpers.

Kyleigh McDermit (Lock Haven, Pa. Central Mountain) filled the stat sheet, finishing with seven kills, three blocks and three digs.

Natalie Acevedo (Camuy, Puerto Rico/Paula Freire Social Justice Charter School) finished with a team-high two aces.

The Haven are winners in four of their past five matches.
