Obituary – Lawrence R. (Larry) Glossner Jr.
Lawrence R. (Larry) Glossner Jr., 91, of Boalsburg (formerly of Mill Hall) passed away on Wednesday, Sept 20 at The Wynwood House in Boalsburg, PA.
Larry was born in Lock Haven on March 25, 1932 to the late Lawrence R. and Hazel Thompson Glossner. He was a 1950 graduate of the Lock Haven High School and a member of the Lock Haven First Church of Christ. Larry served in the United States Air Force from 1951-1955 during the Korean War. On June 30, 1956 he married his love, the former Sherry L. Magent. They were blessed in marriage for 55 years until Sherry’s passing in 2012.
Larry served as the Business Manager for the Bald-Eagle Nittany High School for several years and as Transportation Director for the Central Intermediate Unit #10, retiring in 1993. He was also a past member of the Army National Guard where he supported recovery activities in Wilkes Barre during the 1972 Agnes flood. Larry was an avid wrestling fan, traveling to PA State and NCAA National tournaments through the years with his best buddies. Those buddies were always quick to bust on him about the time he picked them all up to head to Cornell to NCAAs, asking each one of them “you have your tickets?”, only to arrive in Cornell to discover he had forgotten his own tickets. Larry also served as the scoreboard timekeeper for BEN football games for many years.
Larry and Sherry always looked forward to the annual Kent’s Fest at Lock Haven University, which celebrates special needs youth and adults. He continued to do so until his health would no longer allow.
Larry is survived by two daughters and one son; Kelly (Glossner) Bower and husband Phillip of Mohrsville, Pa; Karen (Glossner) Bennett and husband Jeff of Mountain Top, Pa; and Kevin Glossner and wife Karen of Centre Hall, Pa. Also surviving are seven grandchildren; Ryan Bower, Lindsay (Bower) Robert, Leah (Bower) Muller, Anthony Glossner, Tory Glossner, Karly Bennett and Jeffrey Bennett. He is also survived by two great grandchildren; Avery Robert and Trace Bower.
Along with his parents and wife Sherry, he was preceded in death by a son, Kent Glossner, in January 2001. Three brothers; William, Stanley “Speed”, and Richard “Dub” Glossner, and four sisters; Margaret Glossner, Evelyn Decker, Dorothy Shadduck and Eleanor Wyland, also preceded Larry in death.
The family would like to thank the nurses and staff at Wynwood House for the wonderful, loving care they have provided to Larry since Feb 2016. A lot of fun times and memories were made with them.
