Obituary – Rodger W. Cook
Rodger W. Cook, 81, of Montoursville passed away Thursday, September 14, 2023 at Williamsport Hospital.
Born March 6, 1942 in Lock Haven, he was a son of the late William H. Cook and Mary Jane (McCloskey) Cook.
Rodger served in the United State Army during the Vietnam War.
He is survived by Frances (Markel) Knott, his companion for 21 years. She was also his high school sweetheart.
Rodger was a member of the Lock Haven High School Class of 1960, where he wrestled and was the quarterback for the Bobcats football team. He maintained a relationship with many of his teammates.
He was a graduate of Lock Haven State College where he wrestled.
Rodger was an elementary teacher in the Montgomery County School District in Maryland. He was a head wrestling coach at Thomas Wootton High School, coaching from 1980-1993. During his coaching career, wrestlers won three individual Maryland State Wrestling Championships and Wootten High School was the 1984 Montgomery County Team Champions.
Surviving is his brother, Gary A. (Patty) Cook; sister, Ruth E. (Richard) Smith; niece, Kelly (Scott) Baker; nephew, Trevor (Cristina) Smith; five great-nephews: Brody, Trevor, Peyton, Lucas and Cameron; and two great-nieces, Avery and Julia.
Also surviving are Frances’ children and their families: Kathy Knott (Mike) Asche, and their three children: Derek, Lauren and Olivia as well as Kurt (Abby) Knott, and their three children: Vivian, Quinton and Lydia. Rodger was involved in their lives and loved them as a grandfather.
He was preceded in death by a niece, Elizabeth Cali.
As per Rodger’s request, there will be no services.
