Obituary – Edward A. Derr

Edward A. Derr, 74, of Avis, passed away at home surrounded by his family on Sunday, August 6, 2023.

Born January 17, 1949 in Lock Haven, he was the son of the late Joseph and Mary (Dangle) Derr. He was raised in Woolrich and graduated from Lock Haven High School.

Ed proudly served in the United States Marine Corps, 2nd Battalion, 3rd Marine Division, during the Vietnam War, earning the rank of Sergeant before being Honorably Discharged.

In 1991, he married the love of his life, the former Sandra Lee Andrus Morgret, with whom he shared 30 years of marriage before her passing in April 2022.

Ed was employed by Truck-Lite until his retirement.

He was an auctioneer and had a love for antiques and attending auctions.

Ed will always be remembered as a kind-hearted, intelligent, honest and humble man.

Surviving are his children, Beth Derr of Mill Hall, Mara Derr of Harrisburg, Robert Morgret, Sr., Michael Morgret, Sr., Shirley (Tom) O’Dell, Gilbert Stevenson, Jr., and his grandson whom he raised, Michael Morgret, Jr., all of Avis; a brother, Charles “Don” Derr of Centre Hall; a sister, Lois Lichte of Florida; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren whom all called him “Pop Pop.”

Along with his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Hannah Derr in May 2022; a grandson, Kaleb Hoffman in August 2021; a brother, Lester Derr (Lois Crawford) in February 2023; and two sisters: Joann (Leo) Nunes and Rosemary (John) Roller.

A Graveside Service with Military Honors will be held on Friday, August 11, 2023 at 12 P.M. at Rest Haven Memorial Park, 47 Rest Haven Drive, Lock Haven, PA 17745 with Pastor Brian Moyer officiating.
