Chuck Hebring Takes URC Sprint Honors At Clinton County
MILL HALL, PA – For the second year in a row, the United Racing Club made the trek north to the Clinton County Speedway. They got snake bitten as the “Cobra” Chuck Hebing from Ontario,Ny took home his second career URC feature win, both coming at the Clinton County Fair Speedway.
The feature started out with Linden, PA Dale Schweikart and Burlington,NJ Ryan Stillwaggon on the front row. Stillwaggon would have issues getting going and 4th place starting Hebing would get around Stillwaggon for 2nd but as the field came off of turn 4 Stillwaggon would go around and collect Brandon McGough, Joe Kata, Josh Beamer, and URC Points leader Josh Weller. Everyone would return except for Weller.
On the restart Schweikart would take the lead and pull away from Hebing. Schweikart would lead for the first 10 laps till Hebing reeled him in and pulled a slider for the lead.” It was weird, this place used to be so good early. It was so good through the middle at the start of the feature.” Hebing said in victory lane. “ I didn’t think I had anything for the 78 (Schweikart). But then it shifted to the bottom and I couldn’t get nowhere with the lap cars. This place is awfully racy and a lot of fun.” Hebing would go on to lead the rest of the way and collect his 3rd straight 360 win at Clinton County. Dating back to 2018.
Lap cars were playing havoc in the field once Hebing cleared Schweikart, as Hilltown,PA Adam Carberry would get around both Mikey Thompson and Derek Swartz. Carberry who started in the 8th spot would have his best run of the year and looked to be faster than Hebing for the middle part of the race but kept getting held up by the lap car of Ryan Stillwaggon. “It was tough once the lap car got between us.” Said Carberry. “ Once it became bottom dominant I couldn’t get any steam to get around him. We finally stopped listening to everyone telling us what to do and started getting back to what we know and it’s been working out for us lately so hopefully we can keep it going.”
Back in the field. Mikey Thompson would fall back to the fifth spot at one point and make his way through the lap cars to find his first ever URC podium. “ I love Clinton County, ” said Thompson. “It’s a driver’s track you can do about anything you want here. This is my first time on the front stretch since I was in a micro. It’s nice to have a half decent run. We’ve been struggling all year. We wasted a lot of nights to get us here.”
The Clinton County Speedway will be “off” this Friday for a Racer’s summer vacation week allowing the fair to set up for the 50th annual Clinton County Fair. The speedway returns for Friday of Fair Week on August the 4th with the Limited Late Models, Pro Stocks, 270 Micros, 4 Cylinders and One-On-One Street Car Drag Racing – paying $500 to win.
