Cochran Solidifies Championship with a Victory
MILL HALL– Matt Cochran of Williamsport entered the night of competition as the defending Limited Late Model Champion and the current point leader. Cochran put an exclamation point on his season by winning the race to earn his second consecutive track championship and third visit to victory lane this year. Tommy Dawson of Wapwallopen won the Pro Stocks, Micheal Petock of Bloomsburg won the 270 Micro Sprints and Matt Weaver won the 4 Cylinders.
Dan Condo of Lewisburg and Joe Lusk of Jersey Shore led the field of Limited Late Models to the green flag. Lusk jumped into the lead with JR Toner of Bellefonte who started third, running in second place. By lap number 5, Lusk was leading Toner, Cochran, Johnny Bouse and Lane Snook. Cochran, who started sixth, challenged Toner for second place and eventually took the postion on lap number eight. On lap number twelve, Cochran had chased down Lusk and took over the top position.
On lap number 16, Toner reclaimed second place getting by Lusk. With 5 laps to go, Cochran was leading Toner, Lusk, Snook and Bouse. With two laps to go, Snook passed Lusk for third. At the finish Cochran won by 1.866 seconds over Toner, Snook, Lusk and George Dixson Jr. Sixth through tenth were Jim Yoder, Hunter Fulton, Johnny Bouse, Nick Loffredo and Dan Condo. Bouse and Cochran won the heat races.
Pole sitter, Noah Kissinger led the first circuit of the Pro Stock feature event. AJ Stroup challenged for the lead as the top two exited turn four, but the caution came out with Stroup and Kissinger sitting in turn number four. Kissinger was black flagged for aggressive driving and sent to the pit area. Tommy Dawson inherited the lead with AJ Hoffman, Cory Long, AY Schilling, and Marc Bitler restarting in the top five. On lap number 6, Long raced into second place. At the midway point, Dawson was leading Long, Schilling, Hoffman and Bitler. On lap number ten the caution flag waved when Ronnie Ergott got a flat tire. In the final laps, Dawon had a comfortable lead while Long and Schilling battled for second place. Schilling took second place on the final lap. Dawson won over Schilling, Long, Hoffman and Bitler. Sixth through tenth were Larry Knight, Nate Stroup, Rich Fye, Ronnie Ergott and AJ Stroup. Heat races were won by Hoffman and Schilling. AY Schilling won the Pro Stock championship.
Michael Petock of Bloomsburg started on the pole for the 270 Micro Sprint feature event. Petock took command of the field with Cory Stabley and Mac Wert in the top three. On lap number 6, the red flag was thrown, when Tyler Clowes was battling for third and flipped in turn number two. Clowes was transported to a nearby hospital and released the next day.
Following the restart, Petock would lead the remaining laps to claim his second win of the season. Stabley, Wert, Jillian Maurer, and Denny Rinehimer completed the top five. Sixth through tenth were Tom Quiggle, Logan Hammaker, Colton McAndrew, Mathew Dixon and Matt Dixon. Heat races were won by Jeffrey Weaver and Mason McAndrew. Cory Stabley won his second consecutive championship.
Dalton Lucas and Shawn Stahl were the front row starters for the 4 Cylinder feature event. Stahl led the opening lap with Garret Lucas, Dalton Lucas, Larry Beachel and Zak Kline in the top five. Weaver entered the top five by the completion of lap number three. The caution came out on lap number 6 for Garrett Lucas. Following the restart, Weaver made a pass for the lead as Kyler Stahl, Shawn Stahl, Larry Beachel and Terry Karichner were in the top five. Weaver mathematically had a shot at the championship and needed to win the race which he did. Kyler Stahl, Shawn Stahl, Beachel and Karichner completed the top five. Zak Kline finished sixth and won the championship. Alyssa Snook, Coty Maines, Kyle Stouse and Dalton Lucas rounded out the top ten. Heat races were won by Garrett Lucas and Kline.
The Clinton County Speedway will host its season finale on Saturday, September 14 with gates opening at 4PM and Hot laps at 6PM. The Limited Late Models will race for $1,500 to win and the Pro Stocks will compete for $1,000 to win. The 270 Micros will race for $600 to win and the 4 Cylinders will have $500 to win. The events are presented by Keystone Rail Recovery and Snyder’s Concessions.
