All of Pennsylvania under a Code Red air quality alert
STATE COLLEGE, PA – Because of Canadian wildfires and the resulting haze overspreading Pennsylvania, the state Department of Environmental Resources put the entire state under a Code Red air quality designation for Thursday.
DEP, in a release, said, “On a Code Red Air Quality Action Day, young children, the elderly and those with respiratory problems, such as asthma, emphysema and bronchitis, are especially vulnerable to the effects of air pollution and should avoid outdoor activities, and everyone else should reduce prolonged or heavy exertion,”
The National Weather Service’s State College office issued this alert:

A code RED air quality alert means that air pollution concentrations may be unhealthy for some members of the general public. Members of sensitive groups including young children, the elderly, and those with respiratory problems may experience more serious health impacts.
