Food Bank seeks Clinton County volunteers

The Central Pennsylvania Food Bank has undertaken a pilot program to reach more seniors, and it could use some volunteers in Clinton County to help.

The Food Bank’s Community Engagement Home Delivery Pilot has been successful so far so the agency is looking to expand it and get food in the hands of more senior citizens, said Adam Peterson, senior programs manager

Here is what happened in October: 

• The Food Bank delivered 2,888 boxes of food to seniors in its 27-county service territory.
• It delivered 16 boxes to seniors in Clinton County

The other boxes are distributed via our partner agencies (instead of home delivered)

“We sometimes partner with DoorDash to deliver boxes of food to the homes of seniors. Not all are home delivered, but they’ve been steadily increasing their reach, added Jason Niemczyk, senior operations manager for the Central Pennsylvania Food Bank. “In locations where we may not partner with DoorDash, we’ve begun a pilot program to have volunteer groups come out and assist with delivering boxes of food to the seniors.”

Deliveries are put into place to assist seniors who struggle with transportation barriers. 

“Our vision and thought process behind these deliveries is to provide a critical food resource, while also giving the senior that vital social interaction that they may not always receive, which is why we ask volunteers to spend five minutes conversing with the seniors they are delivering to,” Peterson said.
