Status of Flemington Bridge project under review
CLEARFIELD, PA – A spokesperson at PennDOT’s Clearfield district office told the record-online on Thursday that the timeline for reopening the Flemington Bridge to limited traffic is under review.
PennDOT had closed the bridge to what had been traffic light-controlled one lane usage earlier in June with the expectation that the closure and resulting detour would last through the end of June. It appears that the deadline may not be met, pending something official in the near future from PennDOT.
PennDOT said Thursday, “The repair situation on the Flemington Bridge is currently under review. Once the review is complete, we will issue a project update.”
The state highway agency had announced the closure in May, to be in place throughout June, necessary in order to tarp the bridge and perform painting and structural steel repairs. PennDOT says the painting and repairs will improve the condition of the bridge from fair to good and keep it in useful service for years to come. The Flemington structure dates from 1933 and carries an average of more than 13,400 vehicles each day.
Once the bridge is re-opened, temporary traffic signals will again be used to enforce an alternating traffic pattern across the structure. This restriction is necessary for dam repairs, deck repairs, and sidewalk replacement. PennDOT expects work on the Flemington bridge to be complete in early October.
