Lady Wildcats claim D6 softball title
LORETTO, PA – The Central Mountain softball team trailed for a long while in their District 6 Class 5A softball championship game on Wednesday but rallied from a 1-0 deficit with seven late runs to post a 7-1 win over Hollidaysburg to claim another district crown.
The win put Coach Fred Caldwell’s team at 15-3 on the season and added the district crown to a previously earned Heartland Athletic Conference title. Hollidaysburg finished at 13-8 on the year.
The Lady ‘Cats will move on to a subregional game next week against DuBois, the Districts 8-9 survivor. The Lady Beavers, now 15-3, advanced with a Monday 17-1 win over Pittsburgh Brashear. Central Mountain defeated DuBois by a 6-5 score in a play-in game a year ago, a season that saw CM advance to the state semifinals.
Central Mountain and DuBois have not met this year but the Lady Beavers own a 10-6 win over Hollidaysburg.
Tom Elling will have a full rundown on the Wednesday win over Hollidaysburg on therecord-online later Wednesday.
